Matano and Tusker happy to play the big boys

Head coach Robert Matano has said Tusker FC must learn to relish playing against sides with continental pedigree like Gor Mahia FC as they prepare for a return to the CAF Champions League.

Tusker edged Gor 2-1 in a comeback victory during Thursday’s heavyweight clash as they opened a four-point advantage at the summit of the FKF Premier League.

The showdown provided quality test for Tusker, and the side playing like champions-elect passed it to leave the title-holders Gor needing 11 points to catch up.

“When you play a team like Gor it’s a good taste of what you expect in the continental championship they have been there and they have the experience of continental football so when you win matches against such opponent is good build up to the championship,” Matano said.

Captain Hashim Sempala said the Brewers got great satisfaction after securing a return to continental football at the end of last month but still have a thirst to end their five-year league title drought.

“It’s an opportunity that every player is happy about because you get the chance to showcase your talent across the continent and the world. When you shine in such stages you never know who is watching it can be the way to bigger clubs .

“We are happy with the chance and we want to cement it with winning the league because the next three games is against out title rivals and its important to stay focused and plan on how we are going to handle the matches,” Sempala said.

Tusker top the league standings with 50 points, four ahead of KCB whom they play over the weekend with an opportunity to further stretch their advantage.
