Matano downplays Tusker title ambitions
Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano says he is happy to see his side continue staying on top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) but warned it is too early to think about winning the title.
Since losing 1-0 to Ulinzi Stars in October last year, Tusker have collected 24 points out of a possible 30 in a run that has seen them emerge as true title contenders.
But Matano is wary of the chasing pack that includes Kakamega Homeboyz who sit just a point adrift on 33 and Gor who have three games in hand yet are only two behind the leaders.
Tusker edged Kisumu All Stars 2-0 in their previous fixture and while his side dominated the visitors, Matano says they could have done better.
“I am happy with the way things turned out with the game against Kisumu All-stars but I believe we could have done better since we played at home being an advantage on our side,” Matano said.
Tusker face a tricky trip to Mombasa on Sunday where they face a Bandari side that sits 11th on the standings and are keen to bounce back after losing 1-0 to Kariobangi Sharks during the previous round.
“We still have a lot of games to play and we can’t dwell on how we’ve performed so far. We have to keep going,” Matano added, saying the secret is ‘determination and focus’.
