Matano sanctioned Leopards move for Selebwa

AFC Leopards Chairman Dan Mule says the club appointed Gilbert Selebwa as the club’s Team Manager because it was Coach Robert Matano’s wish to have him at the Den.

Selebwa will however have to wait until September before starting his new role after quitting his previous position as Head Coach at struggling Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Muhoroni Youth FC.

The resignation of Selebwa piles more misery for Muhoroni with the tactician having been hired to lead to club out of the relegation zone only to quit four matches into his tenure.

“We’re only doing this under the advice of the coach and reiterate our willingness to support his plans for club,” Mule told Citizen Digital.

Selebwa’s returns to the Den after having served as coach in 2009 before his stint was cut short when the club went for Edward Manoah and Nick Yakhama during the same year.

Matano who is chasing the target of ensuring Leopards win the GOtv Shield and achieve at least atop five finish in the KPL believes the former Congo United tactician is a great addition to his technical bench.

With 19 KPL rounds played, the 12-time champions sit just three points clear of the relegation and are struggling for form having failed to win any of their last three league matches.

Leopards National Executive Committee are mulling giving Selebwa – who is replacing Tony Lidonde – a long term contract and will convene a meeting later to decide the terms of his contract.
