Mathare boss Kimanzi tells Mboya to earn his glove

Mathare United head coach Francis Kimanzi has hailed the club’s latest addition, Robert Mboya, as a huge boost to their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) ambitions.

Kimanzi however gave Mboya no guarantees of an automatic place in his team’s starting line-up and challenged the shot-stopper to fight to earn that spot.

“Every player I have signed in my team can play any time. He may appear in the first team or start from the bench; it all depends on how he performs in the training.

“Mboya is a good goalkeeper whom I believe will help us a lot in achieving our goal for this season which is to win the league title,” Kimanzi told Citizen Digital.

Mboya ditched the Slum Boys one year ago to join Kariobangi Sharks with the latest deal set to tie him down at Mathare until 2021.

He replaces Levis Opiyo, who switched allegiances to Posta Rangers, as the club’s third goalkeeper alongside the experienced Wycliffe Kasaya and Job Ochieng’ who was promoted from a youth team.

Mathare who flirted with relegation for much of last season begin their KPL campaign against Vihiga United on Saturday.
