Mathare lament blunt attack after Sofapaka loss

Mathare United head coach Francis Kimanzi has told his attackers to be more clinical in front of goal following his side’s 3-2 loss to Sofapaka FC in Sunday’s Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash in Machakos.

The result saw the Slum Boys’ nine-match unbeaten league run come to a screeching halt and the tactician has slammed his forward line in the wake of the defeat.

The loss came with its fair share of repercussions as the 2008 league champions dropped to position five on the standings with 34 points.

“My attackers have to improve. We had so many opportunities that if we had been sharper then we could not suffer this defeat because we created a lot of chances lacked enough composure in the final third,” Kimanzi said.

Kimanzi added there has been a dip in confidence within his players having gone five matches without a win but reiterated his belief that they will rediscover form.

“We only need a win before things start clicking. I know this defeat will affect us in terms of motivation but we are going to come back stronger,” the veteran tactician added.

Elsewhere, AFC Leopards Rodolfo Zapata paid tribute to his players for a ‘much-improved’ display after they defeated Sony Sugar 1-0 to go fourth on the KPL standings.

“Today’s performance was great. Sometimes we can lose or draw but one thing that should be noteworthy is the good football I want and that is what my boys have shown on the pitch today,” Zapata said.

At Camp Toyoyo in Nairobi, Vihiga United piled more misery on struggling Wazito FC as they handed the bottom of the table side yet another defeat with Christopher Masinza’s second half strike separating the two sides.

The battle for survival looks to be driving more heat as Nakumatt also suffered an identical 1-0 loss to Tusker Fc with John Kamau’s strike at the Ruaraka grounds stretching the brewers unbeaten streak to five matches.

Gor Mahia who are on CECAFA assignment in Tanzania are still top on the table with 49 points, nine above second placed Sofapaka.
