Mayori upset Mbeere South in Embu Games opener

Debutants Mayori Secondary School from Mbeere South pulled a surprise in the Embu county term 2 Games as they kicked off today at Nyangwa Boys on Thursday.

They top a difficult pool A with four points after winning their opener game 1-0 against county regulars Kamama boys before drawing one all against Kyenire Secondary School.

Mayori head coach James Mosieny was delighted with the team’s performance in their opener game where Evans Ndunda the goal scorer was named the man of match.

“The boys played according to the game plan although there were small mistakes which we have to rectify before tomorrow’s matches.”

Ndunda wearing jersey number 11 clinically collected a fine close from Elisha Kariuki finishing it spectacularly to hand his team the important win.

“We have been practicing on how to play an offensive game, that’s what enabled us to go forward alot thus getting the goal and the win.”

Mayori’s Nobbert Mwaniki hit the post in the second half which Mosieny said was their plan to finish the game with at least two goals.

“It’s a difficult pool so you need alot of goals to survive, now we have to go back and practice more on scoring.”

Kamama boys head coach Samuel Njue was also optimistic saying his team was unlucky in today’s game.

“We lost focus after our opponents scored but we picked up and played a nice game winning possession although we were unlucky not to score.”

His team revived itself winning their second game 1-0 against St Michael municipality.

“We have three points, the group is still open, what we have to do is to go back to basics so that we can win all our remaining games,” added Njue.

In pool B St Paul’s kevote top with six points after winning their first two games.

They outclassed Muganjuki secondary 3-1 before narrowly winning 1-0 against All saints kigari 1-0.
