Mbungo targets strikers as he bids to sharpen Leopards claws

AFC Leopards head coach, Rwandese Casa Mbungo, will bolster his attack once the transfer window opens.

Mbungo was left a happy man after Leopards registered their first win in seven matches, beating Sony Sugar 1-0 at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega at the weekend to claim all the three points.

“I’m very happy for the win and the boys have played well and we shall use this win to build the confidence of the players,’he said.

“I will be looking forward to bringing in a striker who will help him (Wayi Yeka) so as to make our striking more lethal,” Casa added.

Wayi Yeka Tatuwe’s goal in 55th minute hauled Leopards out of the danger zone to position 16 at the expense of Vihiga United and Mt Kenya United who dropped to 17 and 18 consecutively.

Kakamega Homeboyz thrashed Mt Kenya United 6-0 to climb to ninth while Vihiga managed a 1-1 draw with Western Stima.

Mbungo also hailed the intensity of his playing unit something that has given fans a reason to smile after a seven match winless streak.

Mbungo’s intent of bolstering his attack was further reinforced by club secretary Oscar Igaida.

“We are in the market as we need at least five new players. We need to sign two defenders, two midfielders and a striker. We will do this transfers as per the request of the technical bench,” he revealed.

Igaida says Mbungo has already pointed out the additions he needs to see in the remainder of the season.

“The head coach has already given out the names he wants. We will be getting the report this week from the technical bench and we will do our best to  get the players as we want to fight relegation. We will definitely strengthen,” he added.

In a statement, the league body KPL announced the dates for the mid-season transfer window to run for four weeks beginning Monday, March 11.

Meanwhile, Sony Sugar head coach Patrick Odhiambo has taken a swipe at Leopards for time wasting antics during the clash.

“This match was easy and it does not add up when we lose for we should have won it.

“People are supposed to play football and not falling down and  sitting on the pitch which does not help at all.

“We need to play football in ninety minutes and not fifty minutes since we have been training for the whole week to play,” a furious Odhiambo lamented.

The loss condemned millers to position seven on 22 points.
