Meru RFC head coach Patrick Mwika says it’s an honor to host the second leg of the National Sevens Circuit (George Mwangi Kabeberi) this weekend at the Kinoru Stadium, Meru.

Speaking to Citizen Digital said, “It’s a great honor to have this chance to host a big tournament like this one and my players together with the home fans are exited with the growth of the rugby game.”

The Meru based side which consists of varsity players played in the second division of the Kakamega leg last weekend and Mwika is confident that his charges can do better with the right mentality.

Meru RFC are in Pool A for the Kabeberi Sevens together with Kakamega champions KCB, Impala Saracens and Menengai Oilers.

“My team which has young players from KEMU University and Meru polytechnic are well prepared for the leg although we are in a group of death with KCB, Impala and Oilers.”

“Have prepared my players mentally and physically since its not easy playing against giants like KCB, so we’ll just focus on taking each game at a time.”

The former Meru Rfc prop says he has to change his game plan having been promoted to the first division.

“I have to change the body size of my players since the players we had in Kakamega were smaller in body size and found it difficult to defend against their opponents who were bigger than them making tackling harder.”

“Physicality is my main issue ahead of the tourney and I have to change some players to match our opponents.”

He went ahead to applaud the KRU for giving other counties a chance to host their tournaments and asked fans from neighboring counties like Embu and Tharaka Nithi to come out and grace Kabeberi sevens.
