Messy affair: Sofapaka, Medo fight heads to court

Sofapaka President Elly Kalekwa has downplayed claims that the club owes their former coach Melis Medo.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Kalekwa insisted that the club did not fire the coach adding that his departure from the club was on his own volition, terming the exit as one driven by “Medo’s inability to steer the club in the desired direction”.

“We don’t owe him anything, neither did we fire him. His decision to resign was autonomous; nobody pushed him to do so,” Said the Sofapaka owner.

Kalekwa further added that during Medo’s short tenure as the club’s head coach, he received all the support he needed to lead the team in the desired direction but things did not work out as expected, consequently leading to his departure.

“We gave him the job wholeheartedly and gave him total support as a club but it turned out that the task was too big for him. In as much as we were not satisfied with his results, we never told him to leave,”added Kalekwa.

But in a quick rejoinder Melis Medo dismissed sentiments by his former boss insisting hence his inability to run the club’s activities effectively, referring to refer to Sofapaka’s staff as “fake and untrue to themselves”.

“They never gave me the support I needed. They are all fake and untrue and I am happy that I left that place. It is not a good place to be in,”he said.

Medo further affirmed that he will proceed with his plans to sue the club because he knows that his rights were violated and that he is positive the ruling will be in his favour. He however says that his compensation will go to charity.

“I am taking them to court and I am positive that I will be compensated. However, I will give it out to charity because I don’t need it.”

Kalekwa has termed Medo’s remarks as unfair saying everybody in the club treated him with utmost respect.

Upon decamping from Sofapaka, Medo rejoined his former club Nakumatt FC now re-branded as Mount Kenya United who are flirting with relegation as John Baraza took over at the Batoto Ba Mungu albeit in an acting capacity.
