Mexico sink Reggae Boyz to make quarters

Mexico beat Jamaica 2-0 in the Copa America Centenario on Thursday to book their spot in the quarter-finals and eliminate Uruguay from the tournament.

Earlier in the day, Uruguay went down 1-0 to Venezuela, meaning any result from Mexico would end their campaign with a group stage match still to play.

That result also gave Mexico the chance to seal a place in the knockout stages for the first time since 2007 and they made no mistake.

Javier Hernandez put El Tri ahead after 18 minutes and Oribe Peralta sealed the result nine minutes from time.

Mexico will finish atop Group C with a result against Venezuela in their final group game.
