Miathene High School rugby head coach Patrick Mwika expects an astounding performance by his charges during the Upper Eastern Prescott cup competition set to kick-off on Saturday June 1, 2019.

Prescott Cup Eastern region kicked off last weekend with the Lower zone at Makueni Boys but the Upper zone planned for Meru School didn’t go on.

Five schools will converge at Kangaru School in Embu on Saturday to get things going and follow in suit what has been happening in Nairobi, Western and Nyanza regions.

Mwika is already looking up to the competition engaging his charges in thorough preparations for the competition that he  is terming as “a great opportunity to grow rugby” in the entire Eastern region.

Miathebe will join hosts Kangaru School, Meru School, Kevote and Igembe for the month-long competition.

Miathene rugby team also known as the Matosa, is raring to storm the competition in style maximizing on this opportunity that has come at the best time awarding the students with the best time to focus to the competition.

“It’s a good opportunity that we all look forward to,” said Mwika.

“We know its not easy to have this kind of competition, we know the responsibility that awaits us that’s why we have started the preparations as early as possible to produce a magnificent performance in the competition.”

According to Mwika, Eastern region has plenty of upcoming talents in Rugby but not been able to mature up due to lack of suppor. He thus terms the Prescott Cup competition as a precious opportunity that he cannot afford to blow away.

Several schools in the Eastern, both upper and lower regions have lined up for this competition.

Matchday one fixtures n Saturday June 1 will see Miathene take on Kevote, Kangaru play Meru School and Igembe play Kevote in the first round of matches.

All matches kick-off at 9am at Kangaru School.
