Migne fumes at Stars defeat, villain Matasi wont dwell on criticism

Harambee Stars coach Sebastian Migne has expressed his disappointment at the team’s defeat by Black Stars of Ghana in Saturday’s African Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Stars did well to hold the hosts for long spells in the game only to concede a late goal to lose 0-1 and surrender the Group F top position to Ghana, who moved to 9 points, two ahead of Stars and the French man expressed his deep disappointment at the turn of events.

“Of course, I’m disappointed with the loss because we were not far from registering a huge result in Ghana against a top team in Africa,” Migne said upon the team’s arrival from Ghana early Monday.

At the same time goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has shouldered the blame for the sloppy goal conceded terming it a miscalculation.

“We lost the ball in the midfield and my defence was beaten while going out. It was a miscalculation and that’s how it slipped and we conceded,’’ explained Matasi.

Matasi who plies his trade at St. Georges Ethiopia at the same time said that he’ll not dwell on the criticism leveled against him on social media by the fans.

The Stars alongside the Ghanaian team, by virtue of coming first and second in the group will join other 21 teams and the hosts Egypt for the biennial continental championship primed to kick off in Egypt beginning June.

The Stars who last participated in the showpiece in 2004 will now shift their focus to a three-week boot camp in France in May as they prepare for the continental assignment.

Kenya will wait to know their group opponents when the draw is held on April 12 in the Egyptian capital ahead of  June 21 kick off.
