The new Harambee Star head coach Sebastian Migne says he is determined to bring the best from the local players called up for the national team duties.
Migne who took over from Paul Putt early this month believes the domestic stars can form the core unit of his squad as he looks to build a winning team.
Stars are in camp ahead of friendly games against Swaziland and Equatorial Guinea on Friday and Monday with both matches to be played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
“I’m optimistic we will win thanks to the presence of local players in the squad who also are the future players for CECAFA and other tournaments.
“We start to work immediately bearing in mind we have two friendly games and maybe three more in India, it will be interesting for me to have answers about the performance of local club players,” the Frenchman said.
Players in camp said they believe Migne will lead the Stars to glory.
“We know expectations are high in terms of Kenya Football progressing but we urge the fans to be patient since it’s a team that’s under construction. I am positive we are going to have good results judging from the training,” Gor Mahia FC midfielder Francis Kahata said.
“It’s a team made up of new players, coach and the technical bench, but we are ready to learn and explore. The training sessions have been good so far and we have really learnt a lot from the coach. He has brought in different tactics and we are ready to learn from him for the goodwill of the team moving forward,” former Stars captain Musa Muhammed said.
The friendly come on the wake of a tug of war between Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Kenya Premier League Limited (KPL) over the Mashemeji Derby – with the former pushing for the postponement of the match.
