Mills regrets poor start in Morans loss to South Sudan

Morans head coach Liz Mills has rued their slow start during the game against South Sudan as the reason they missed their chance to qualify to the quarter finals of the Fiba Afrobasket championship in Kigali Rwanda.

Morans were eliminated after 60-58 loss to South Sudan who will now face defending champions Tunisia in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

“That was the difference in this game. I believe we put ourselves very well to win this game in the second, third and fourth quarter but truth is you can’t start a game ten nil down then fight back there is a lot of talent in that south Sudanese side they are really well coach.

I think we dug ourselves a hole which we have done in a couple of games and I think it’s a great learning opportunity for us heading into the world cup qualifiers working on our side of the game getting ready to go from the tip off,” Mills said.

Her sentiments were echoed by Morans ace Bush Wamukota who says they have gotten enough experience that they can build on in the coming competitions

“Every body was excited and can out to give their best in the game they can out and gave the first punch and to give them credit they did their job and as the head coach says we tried to fight back in the game but as the coach said we must keep our heads up and take that as a learning experience a head of the world cup qualifiers which we are planning to conquer our opponents in the group,”stated Wamukota.

Focus now turns to the world cup qualifiers that begin in November with Kenya being in poo D alongside Egypt, Democratic Republic of Congo and Senegal with coach Mills determined to cause an upset against the best in the continent.

“No one was more exciting than our team sometimes we can’t execute but we will never not come with effort and that’s what Kenyan basketball is all about people might says we are not the most talented we can do this we can’t do that but I can assure you we have 16 team here and no team can out work us and that is Kenyan spirit 100%,”the Australian tactician said in her post match interview
