Minnaert calls for Ingwe consistency after award

AFC Leopards Head Coach Ivan Minnaert has called for consistency among his players shortly after scooping March’s edition of the Fidelity Insurance Coach of the Month on Tuesday morning.

Minnaert became the first foreigner to win the award after leading Ingwe to the top of the SportPesa Premier League summit following an impressive league run of three victories and a draw, pocketing Ksh50000 as part of the package.

“I want to thank my players for their tireless efforts. With the kind of dedication they are showing in training I am sure we will achieve a lot this season,” Minnaert told Citizen Digital.

The Belgian warded off stiff competition from Tusker FC’s Paul Nkata, Ulinzi Stars’ Robert Matano and John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla of Nairobi City Stars, all of whom were behind the significant achievements of their respective clubs during the month of March.

The introduction of Minnaert into the den is steadily proving to be Ingwe’s turning point, having transformed the club into real title contenders in his short tenure in charge of the club.

Despite his earlier declaration that Ingwe are unlikely to win the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) title this season, AFC have largely been the most consistent SPL team after eight league rounds, deadlocked at the top with Tusker FC and Mathare United.

Fellow frontrunners Mathare United’s boss Francis Kimanzi won the inaugural award for February.

Leopards will hope they can continue their title push when they take on Ushuru FC at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.
