Modern Coast inching away from NSL drop zone

Modern Coast Rangers are slowly but surely disentangling themselves from the National Super League (NSL) relegation battle after chalking a second victory of the season as Nzoia United scaled to the top of the standings over the weekend.

Mohamed Muchule’s side claimed three valuable points against the hosts Palos at Kisumu Moi Stadium on Saturday to move up to 16th on ten points, five above FC Talanta who are second from bottom.

Zoo Kericho are only two points shy of the leaders on 29 after scoring the biggest victory of the weekend when they humiliated KCB who were relegated from the top flight last season 4-1 at their backyard.

Mike Madoya, Kepha Ondati and Kipkurui put Zoo in command by the 80th minute before the Banker’s custodian was sent off in for the penalty that led to the fourth.

Wazito FC gave struggling giants, Shabana FC no respite after hammering them 3-0 for a fifth successful loss without scoring as their nightmare start to their delayed start to the season continued.

A brace from Kennedy Wanjie and another from Stanley Ndungu sunk the Gusii-based side in their adopted home of Awendo Green Stadium with the club still searching for a sponsor and a new coach before their downfall becomes critical.

Wazito improved to 10th (19) on the log after their stroll against the division’s whipping boys.

Vihiga United made light of George Odiwour’s absence as they continued their fine form with a 1-0 win over St Joseph’s FC to move to fifth (27) four off the lead.

Patrick Akulo settled the match in the second half as his team climbed above Kariobangi Sharks (25) who were surprisingly held to a barren draw by Talanta.

-Nzoia charge-

Table toppers Nzoia are still unbeaten after 13 games with hosts Bidco FC their latest casualties in a 2-0 defeat at Thika Municipal Stadium that saw the hosts drop to ninth, also on 19.

After failing to nail a place in the Harambee Stars team that played Tanzania, striker Bitolwa Masita Masuta notched the opener in the ninth minute for his eighth of the season before Bryan Yakhama added the second 20 minutes later.

Masuta trails Shark’s Boniface Akenga by a single goal in the race for the Golden Boot.

Police stunned Nakumatt FC and displaced them from the top with a 1-0 victory on Sunday with Kevin Okello scoring the all important goal in the 13th, leaving the retailers second on 30 having played a game more than Nzoia.

The ties between Nairobi Stima versus Oserian in Naivasha and Ligi Ndogo versus visiting Nakuru All Stars also served barren stalemated.
