Modern Coast Rangers, Bandari wary of challengers in GOtv shield

Modern Coast Rangers head coach, Mohammed Ahmed, is confident of beating Kariobangi Sharks in the Round 16 GOtv Shield match to be staged at the Mbaraki Stadium on Sunday, August 28.

The Mombasa-based outfit has made it to the pre-quarter final stage after having bowed out in the early stages in previous editions.

Coach Ahmed has said that he will be banking on home support to win the match against Kariobangi Sharks whom they have come up in the second tier for the past three seasons.

“We have prepared very well and worked on the mistakes we committed in our last encounter against Kariobangi Sharks in the league. Our form in this GOtv Shield is very good especially this year and we want to continue with the same. We will be playing at home which makes it a must win game for us. We hope to stick to our game plan and work hard to victory,” said Ahmed.

Later on at the same venue, Bandari will host National Super League (NSL) side Bidco United.

The Dockers, who are the defending champions, required a David King’atua late strike to beat another NSL side Nakumatt 2-1 and advance to the Round of 16.

Bandari’s captain, Wilson Oburu, has warned his teammate not to under estimate their opponents as they continue with their quest to defend their title.

“Our target is to defend the title but it’s not easy since every team wants to beat us. Today we expect a very tough match because normally in knockout competitions you meet teams from the lower division who prove to be hard to crack open. We have prepared very well despite having played many tough matches within a very short period and we are determined to qualify for the next stage,” noted Oburu.

This will be the first match Bandari will be playing at home in this year’s edition and Oburu admits that they will be under pressure to win in front of their fans.
