Moim, Mukuvulani power Malkia Strikers past Senegal

Experienced outside hitter Mercy Moim was in her blistering best as Kenya defeated Senegal 3-0 (25-21, 28-26, 25-15) in their second Pool B match of the 2017 Women’s African Nations Championship at Palais des Sports in Yaoundé, Cameroon on Sunday.

Moim and Edith Mukuvulani hit a match-high 15 points apieace with Sow Binetou scoring 12 to lead the Senegalese charge yet in vain.

It was second 3-0 win in as many matches after the Malkia Strikers who launched their title defense with a far more dominant display in their opener against Nigeria.

After nine-time champions won the first set, the crucial moment of the match came when Senegal was ahead 24-19 in the second set before Moim and veteran middle blocker Brackcides Khadambi did their best to rally Kenya into a 28-26 win.

The spirited Kenyans went on to win 25-15 in the subsequent set to put their opponents on notice and to once again underline their title credentials.
