Moim, Wisa standout despite Cameroon heartache

Despite losing the Africa Nation Championship to Cameroon, Kenya’s Malkia Strikers left the competition heads tall.

A number of the leading lights in the team were recognized for their sparkling performance and they will no doubt be an integral part of the squad ahead of the World Championship set for Japan next year.

Captain and Kenya Prisons star Mercy Moim led by example. She won the best attacker/spiker award with 14 points.

Moim has captained the team for two years and was part of the 2015 squad that won the historical ninth African Nations Championship in Nairobi.

With 2018 Japan FIVB World Championships fast approaching, the experienced spiker is among the players coach Japheth Munala will be depending on to fly  Kenya’s flag high in the global competition.

Her Kenya Prisons team mate and blocker Edith Wisa , displayed scintillating performances to win the best blocker award with 19 points.

Wisa’s exemplary blocking skills were put to limelight during Kenya’s game against group B runners-up Senegal, where she was pivotal in keeping the ‘Strikers’ in the game. This is her second award in the same category, after bagging another one in the Africa Club Championship in Monastir, Tunisia, early this year.
