Moldovan Olympics canoeist suspended for doping

Moldovan canoeist Sergey Tarnovschi, who won a bronze medal in the 1,000m race at the Olympics, was suspended Thursday for doping, the International Canoe Federation (ICF) said.

The 19-year-old was banned after failing a pre-competition test.

“He was due to contest the (two-man) 1,000m with brother Oleg, but will now no longer be eligible and will face provisional suspension under anti-doping rules,” said a ICF statement.

The ICF did not give details of the substance involved.

Tarnovschi was the fifth athlete of the day to be suspended over doping after Indian wrestler Narsingh Yadav, Kyrgyzstani weightlifter Izzat Artykov, Brazilian cyclist Kleber Ramos and Chinese swimmer Chen Xinyi.
