Moneybags Wazito sign Omondi from Stima

Kenyan Premier League moneybags Wazito FC have roped in Edwin Clifford ‘Euro’ Omondi from rivals Western Stima, the club announced Wednesday.

The former Chemilil Sugar midfielder becomes Wazito’s fifth new signing after the arrival of Vincent Oburu, Mark Otieno, Kevin Kimani and Boniface Omondi.

The Nairobi-based club has been one of the most active in the transfer market with Western Stima seemingly their target for fresh blood after snatching Fidel Origa and Maurice Ojwang, also from the club.

“Omondi is a midfielder by trade and his arrival will bolster our defensive midfield area. He has previously played for Gor Mahia Youth, Palos FC, and Chemelil Sugar FC,” Wazito announced through the club’s official website.

Wazito fired 14 players at the end of the previous campaign and have been on a spending spree as they look to rebuild ahead of the new campaign.

Their transfer strategy has largely failed with their acquisitions failing to sparkle and leaving the club hovering in the relegation zones before the KPL was suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Speaking after signing with the Fred Ambani coached side, Omondi said the opportunity to join one of the ‘biggest’ clubs in the country was too difficult to turn down.

“I feel fantastic after signing for Wazito FC because this is one of the greatest clubs in Kenya as at now. My mission is to work hard and steer the team to a better position next season. I urge the fans to keep rallying behind the team and all will be well,” Kimani told the club’s official website.

On his part, Ambani said the midfielder would be of big help thanks to his vast experience in the KPL.

“Euro is an experienced player. He has played in the Kenyan Premier League for some years gaining valuable experience which he brings into the team,” he stated.
