Morans aim daggers at Ivorians in decisive knockout match
Kenya men basketball team will tomorrow collide with winless Ivory Coast in a round of 16 clash in the ongoing FIBA AfroCan competition in Bamako, Mali.
Kenya Morans seized the second position in Group B with three points, a point shy of dominant DR Congo who garnered maximum points after whipping Kenya and winless Nigeria to secure unswerving qualification to the quarter-finals.
Cliff Owour coached side fell to 82-65 to DR Congo in their group match losing in all the four quarters despite Morans’ Tyler Ongwae scoring second game-high 20 points, completing 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
Should Kenya prevail against the Ivorians they’ll face Tunisia in the quarters on Wednesday.
Against Nigeria, Morans found its spark winning 81-69 despite the west Africans being one of the top rated teams in Africa, according to Nike’s FIBA rankings.
Ongwae was Kenya’s star man against Nigeria scoring game-high 31 points to guide the Morans to their first win, with Erick Reuben Mutoro and Okall Koranga playing co-stars with sparkling performances sinking 12 points apiece.
