The national men’s basketball team Morans have intensified training at the Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium as they gear up for the final leg of the 2021 Afrobasket qualifiers.

The team reported to camp Tuesdat and assistant head coach Sadat Gaya says they expect a full house in due course.

Gaya added that they will be focusing on players’ fitness as they have been out of action since November.

“So far the training is good, local players have started training as we expect foreign-based players. We had seven players yesterday at the camp and we expect more today,” Gaya said.

Gaya said they will be looking at the fitness of the players since they have been out of action since November.

“You can’t gauge game fitness; some players can be fit but when the game starts they look unfit. With time their fitness and sharpness will be back to normal,” he enthused.

The Morans who have one foot into the Afrobasket Finals scheduled to take place in March this year in Kigali, Rwanda will be playing the last round of qualifiers from 21st February 2021 against Mozambique, Angola and Senegal in Cameroon from 19th to 21st February 2021.

Kenya defeated Mozambique 79-62 during the first leg of qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda last year and is hoping to return to the continent’s biggest bonanza for the first time in 28 years.

At the same time head coach Cliff Owuor is expected in the country soon to join camp. He works in Rwanda coaching APR.
