The national men’s basketball team Morans have been given the green light by the government to start training ahead of Afrobasket qualifiers set for next month.

The Kenya Basketball Federation chairman Paul Otula says they are happy with the development as it will boost their plans, adding that they’ll adhere to the health protocols.

“I thank all players for their sacrifice by training in isolation, and I want to thank the government for the decision. We will ensure we follow all the health protocols because safety of our players is our number one concern,” Otula told Citizen Digital on Tuesday.

Otula has however urged the public to stay away from the training facility to give the players ample time and space to concentrate on their workouts.

“ We promise we will give our best as we have done in previous tournaments since we have a committed, disciplined and well exposed team,” he added.

Otula said he believes they have a ”very good chance” of qualifying for the championship.

The foreign-based players will join them two weeks before the championship because currently they are active in their respective leagues .

The qualifiers are set to take place in Kigali, Rwanda from 25th to 29th November 2020 with Kenya facing Angola, Mozambique and Senegal.

The Morans qualified for the second round after winning the pre-qualification round that was held at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium earlier this year.
