Fresh details emerge in Okombe murder puzzle

Details continue to emerge regarding the heinous murder of rugby star Mike Okombe even as police said that they are detaining six suspects in relation to the killing.

Okombe was stabbed to death on Saturday night by a middle- aged woman believed to have been his partner.

According to Rongai OCPD Japhet Kioko, they have six suspects in custody whom they say have recorded statements awaiting further investigations into the murder of the rugby player.

Kioko said they are looking into all leads in the matter adding that they have condoned off the scene with more sleuths sent to aid in investigations saying the suspects will be taken to court.

“We have six suspects in custody as per now. The main suspect had surrendered herself to the police accompanied with her lawyer. We also have the host of the party together with her wife. After thorough Investigations we will charge them in court,” said Kioko.

A scuffle is alleged to have emerged between Mike Okombe and his lover, prompting the woman to rush to the kitchen, picked a knife, and then stabbed him.

Though the attack occurred in the house, police said there was no trace of blood in the house.

Police officers who visited the crime scene had difficulty in carrying out investigations. It however emerged that the blood stains in the house were cleared, leaving traces outside the house.

The police were told by those in the house that stains were cleared as there were children in the house whom they feared would be traumatized.

At the same time, the 37 year old woman who is alleged to have stabbed to death the rugby star surrendered to the police on Monday accompanied by her lawyer.

Maryanne Mumbi, the key suspect in the matter, together with five others including host of the party surrendered themselves to the Nakuru CID regional offices in Nakuru .

They were later referred back to Rongai police station by the Nakuru Town CID boss where the incident is believed to have happened.

Mumbi’s lawyer Kamau Chomba said her client had not fled adding that she was not aware Okombe had died.

According to Chomba, her client was shocked and decided to present herself to the police.

“My client was not aware Okombe had died she was shocked and I had to accompany her to the station,” he said.

A car belonging to Mumbi’s sister was used to rush Okombe to Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The car, which is being held at Nakuru Central Police station, is alleged to have been involved in an accident that hit two motorcyclists who were in a shade along the road, seriously injuring them.
