More trouble for Thika as Muyoti throws in the towel

Struggling Thika United have had their troubles compounded after head coach Nicholas Muyoti resigned in a huff on Tuesday, throwing the spanner into the works.

Thika have been struggling on the pitch this term, winning just one match out of the 13 they have so far played.

Muyoti, in an interview with Citizen Digital however cited lack of goodwill from the club’s management as well as financial troubles bedeviling the club.

“I have stepped aside because of the poor results we are witnessing at the club that has been brought about by lack of support from the management.

Since last year  there has been a lot of tussle with the management when it came to paying the players their salaries and allowances, this has made it even hard to motivate the players,” said Muyoti.

Muyoti took over from James Nandwa, who held fort for the better part of 2016 before he was axed paving the way for Muyoti to take over the hot seat.

Thika has struggled to stay afloat in the top-tier league having to go through a play-off with Ushuru, late last year, winning 1-0 on aggregate.

“We could not get the players we wanted during the transfer window. The club had no explanation as to why they could not support us to get our targets,”Muyoti lamented in a phone interview with Citizen Digital moments after he resigned from the job.

He went on. “The team has a sponsor but with the lack of support therein one fails to understand why all this is happening, and that’s why I had to take that bold step and resign.”

With his former side currently second from bottom in the 18-team league, with nine points emanating from six draws,a similar number of defeats and a win, Muyoti was guarded about his next move.

“For now I have no offers from any club but I want to take some time off and plan appropriately for my next move,” he told Citizen Digital.

Thika face Wazito FC  on May 6 in their next assignment, a Kenyan Premier League tie set for Camp Toyoyo. After the sluggish run, all eyes will be on the ‘milk men’ as pundits aim to discern what the future portends for the once promising club.
