Moseti, Moranga win 10km Kisii road race

Winfridah Moseti and Fredrick Morang’a on Sunday, November 29th, clinched the women’s and men’s titles respectively during the Kenya Commercial Bank and Kisii County Government sponsored Kisii 10 km road race.

Moseti, winner of Madoka Half Marathon crossed the finishing line in 32:26.19 minutes in the race which was run under hot conditions in the streets of Kisii town. She was trailed in second position by Ruth Bosibori who clocked 32:04.76 minutes as upstart Dolphine Omare came third in a time of 33:17.89 minutes.

Martha Mokaya came fourth clocking 33:21.28 minutes while Teresa Omosa was fifth in
a time of 33:22.40 minutes. Moseti took home a cash prize of Ksh 35,000.

On the other hand, Morang’a upset favourites among them Kisumu City Marathon winner Declerk Omari to win the men’s race; clocking 28:32.10 minutes and was closely followed by Justine Moseti in second position.

Robert Sawoyo was third and Benson Nakeri fourth.

Morang’a, Moseti, Sawoyo and Nakeri were in the leading pack until the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital roundabout when Morang’a broke away to win the race.

The male’s race favourite Omari, who was using the competition to prepare for the 9th edition
of the Safaricom Kisumu City Marathon, finished fifth in 28:59.71 minutes.

Morang’a 23, who also trains at Keroka Athletics Club, termed the course as tough.

David Nyamache, 75, was the oldest finisher.

The race was flagged off at Dados Hotel and took the athletes through Hospital Road, Barclays Bank to the main Kisii Migori Highway and finished at the Kenya Commercial Bank main branch.
