Mourinho remains coy on Man United job

Jose Mourinho kept his cards close to his chest when asked about his managerial future this week.

The ex-Chelsea boss gave no real clue as to whether Manchester United’s defeat to West Ham and likely absence from the Champions League next season will affect his chances of landing the job.

When pressed on the subject while attending a FIFA legends exhibition match in Mexico, all Mourinho could say was, “There is plenty of time.” (via Daily Mail).

The ex-Chelsea boss was supposed to have been on the brink of being confirmed as replacement to Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford a few weeks ago, but the likelihood of him succeeding the under fire Dutchman appeared to be diminishing.

That was until this week, when Van Gaal’s United gave up their opportunity to beat Manchester City to fourth place in the final Premier League table.

Such words fail to rule anything out, but equally offer no clear indication as to anything concrete actually happening. The 53-year-old has previously declared that he will be starting his next job, whatever that might, be in July.

Earlier this week, some conspiracy theorists suggested that the Renato Sanches deal surprisingly tied up by Bayern Munich could be linked to the Mourinho saga.

The 18-year-old midfielder is represented by Jorge Mendes, famously Mourinho’s agent, and agent to half of Iberia by the sounds of it. Could Sanches very suddenly going to Bayern when he appeared all but certain to join United be a sign that Mourinho and Mendes feel ‘screwed over’ by Ed Woodward and the Old Trafford board, they asked.
