Mourning Nondies plan touch rugby in honor of Gecheo

Kenya Cup side Nondescripts RFC will host a touch rugby tournament at the ASK Showground, Jamhuri Park in honor of their fallen center Ogeto Gecheo who died on Tuesday.

Kenya’s rugby fraternity is still coming to terms with Gecheo’s sudden demise who met his death from the same sport he was so passionate about but one at which – as fate would have it – he was denied the time to leave his mark on.

The game will kick off on Friday at 2:00pm (+GMT) after which there will be tribute session from family, friends and fellow players with the event doubling up as a fundraiser to help his family meet the send-off costs.

Fondly referred to as OG by those within his circles, the 19-year-old was only in his first season with Nondies but had found his space in the team, earning immense respect from the coaching staff as well as players for his great potential.

Rugby governing body KRU earlier honoured Gecheo by asking affiliate teams to observe a minute of silence in his remembrance with Nondies putting their campaign on hold for the next two match days to give him a proper send off.

He will be laid to rest at the family home in Njoro on December, 13.
