Muchiri’s late strike secures a point for Tusker

Boniface Muchiri’s late strike rescued a point for Tusker  in a 2-2 thriller against Posta Rangers in a Kenyan Premier League clash staged at Camp Toyoyo on Monday.

Tusker FC took the lead in the 30th minute through Michael Khamati’s strike after he was teed up by Boniface Muchiri but Rangers bounced back to equalize in the second half through Gerson Lukono’s 55th minute beautiful free-kick.

Rangers scored their second in the 78th minute through Jeremiah Wanjala and the mailmen seemed destined to cart away the three points but it was Boniface Muchiri at the rescue, for the brewers, with his 88th minute goal handing Robert Matano’s men a vital point.

Both sides came into the match off some poor run with them sharing identical single victories in their last five games and Tusker will regret not utilizing their first half chances where Lloyd Wahome’s weak header from Mike Khamati’s cross was easily saved by keeper Boniface Baraza.

Robert Matano was forced to make his first substitution after just 25 minutes when midfielder Hashim Ssempala picked up an injury, and in his place came Apollo Otieno.

With his side dominating possession forcing Rangers to play in their own half during the final stages of the match, Matano made a double change bringing in the fresh legs of Peter Nzuki and new signing David Juma for Khamati and Robert Achema respectively.

Nonetheless, it was the visitors who had to chase for an equalizer and they will have to thank the on-form Muchiri for earning them a late point, leaving the home side in disbelief.

Rangers now move to position nine on 24 points on the log while Tusker remain 11th placed  having garnered 23 points from 19 matches.
