Mudavadi Girls ease into County Games semis

Mudavadi Girls swept into the semi-finals on Thursday as they made an emphatic start to their Vihiga County High School volleyball title defence bid.

The holders won all four of their preliminary matches in straight sets against Ebusiloli Secondary School, Moi Girls Vokoli, St Paul Erusui and Ibubi Girls High School.

Mercy Akinyi, the Mudavadi Girls captain asserted the team had shown they are in good shape and will defend their crown.

“This title is going nowhere and we’re ready to go the finals because we’ve trained hard for this,” she said.

They are likely to face stiff competition from St Bakhitas Ebusiratsi Girls High School who are eyeing their first ever title after winning all their group matches on their way to topping Pool B.

Elsewhere Ibubi Girls High School advanced into the netball semi-finals where they will face Bugina Girls.

In the under-16 games at Mumboha field Ebubayi and Idavaga Muslim Secondary Schools have qualified for semis.

Grace Mulema coordinator for under 16 games at Mumboha says presenting over aged players denies the region or young people opportunity offered for young players by sponsors but said cases of over age in her pool were not encountered.

At Ebunangwe field Ebwali who were second last year behind Vihiga Boys High School have qualified to the Semis after drawing 1-1 with Chavakali and beating Vigina 4:0.

Emusire also has managed to qualify after holding Chavakali to a barren draw as Nyang’ori, Bugina and Chavakali are eliminated at preliminary stage.
