Muguna will be back, Ngala assures as Gor prepare for new season

Gor Mahia assistant Secretary General Ronald Ngala says the club is aiming to sign a top striker and a midfielder before the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions league set to begin at the end of November 2018.

K’Ogalo lost left-back Godfrey Walusimbi to South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs and striker Meddie Kagere to Tanzania giants Simba FC, and Ngala believes quick replacements will help them build a competitive squad for the continental competition.

This comes in the wake of heavy criticism over how Gor’s management handled the exits of the two stars.

“We lost two very crucial players to our continental competitors, so we have to move with speed to replace them.

“The coach and the technical bench are scouting for a good striker and midfielder as we look forward to build a strong side to compete effectively in all competitions,” said Ngala.

This comes in the wake of reports linking former midfielder Kenneth Muguna with a return to the club he left to join KF Tirana in Albania.

Head coach Dylan Kerr was reluctant in re-signing Kenneth Muguna claiming   that 2016 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Most Valuable Player and former captain Musa Mohammed    were duped to ditch Gor.

However, Ngala insists the Briton has softened his stand on Muguna.

“Our coach may not have seen Muguna play because he exited just when the he had joined the team, but we have explained to him the great qualities he possesses. Consequently, he has shown the willingness to work with him.

“If he comes back as a free agent the way he is, we will definitely get him back,” Ngala told Citizen Digital.

Muguna who signed from Western Stima in 2017 managed three goals and nine assists which aided the club to win an unprecedented 16th league title in the same season.

However, upon signing for Tirana under his former coach Jose Marcelo ‘Ze Maria’ Ferreira (still Tirana head currently), the soft spoken creative midfielder failed to impress in the Eastern Europe country.

Since returning to Kenya mid this year terminating contract with Tirana on mutual consent, Muguna has not signed for any club. His colleague Musa Mohammed had a short stint unattached, as he found a new home in Zambia (Nkana Red Devils) after the Albania sojourn.

Cutthroat competition is expected in the Gor midfield if Muguna rejoins the team, as Francis Kahata, Samuel Onyango, and Humphrey Mieno among others will be fighting for starting roles.

Sources close to Citizen Digital revealed Ugandan international Joseph Ochaya could be on his way to Gor, to fill the left-back void left by Walusimbi.
