Muhoroni players seeking refuge in Nairobi after goons attack

Players from Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side, Muhoroni FC, fled to Nairobi to seek aid after accusing club chairman, Moses Adagala, of hiring goons to attack them on Wednesday night.

According to the team’s captain, Bebeto Lwamba, a gang six goons broke into his house and those belonging to KPL top scorer – Wycliffe Ochomo – and forward Yusuf Mohammed.

“We were violently attacked by people who claimed to be acting on Adagala’s command to search whether we had sneaked women into our rooms. It was at around 11 pm and the raid was so violent that our house doors are currently broken down,” Bebeto told Citizen Digital.

Discontented, the players decided to seek the audience of Adagala at his residence on the issue.

“He instructed his body guards to attack us when we meant no harm. We just wanted a clarification from him and as we escaped he ordered them to pursue us. We were mercilessly beaten. My head is hurt while Ochomo and Mohammed also sustained minor injuries,” Bebeto narrated.

Things went sour for the players and were forced to sleep out in the cold after getting no protection from Muhoroni Police Station where they say was their first destination.

“We decide to spend the rest of the night out till this morning when we board a bus to Nairobi.” said the team captain.

The fifteen member team , accompanied by their coach Bobby Ogolla , Team Manager Elly Odhiambo who refused to talk to media, then boarded a bus to Nairobi where they made way the KPL headquarters to report the matter.

However, KPL Safety and Security Officer, GMT Otieno, advised that the issue was still an inside matter saying the best resolution would come from its management and the local football governing body officials.

“KPL officials will only step in in the event that no way forward is reached between the two parties,” Otieno said.

Meanwhile, both the playing unit and the technical bench have vowed not to honor any home matches until they get a proper explanation of the events that unfolded during the frightful night and an assurance that their security will be guaranteed.

The Awasi-based club who are currently ranked ninth in the KPL had only rested a few hours after a 2-1 friendly win over National Super League (NSL) side Zoo Kericho FC when the attack occurred.

Adagala denied the claims.
