Muhoroni Youth in mourning as striker Juma dies

Severe head injuries to Jonathan Juma contributed to his death after a grisly road accident yesterday, Muhoroni Youth CEO Collins Dave has said.

Juma met his untimely demise while riding on a motorbike which veered off the road before losing balance.

Juma was in action at the weekend scoring the lone goal against Bomet based Silibwet FC in an FKF Division One League match.

“After the Sunday win in Bomet, we gave all players a day off and Juma rushed to Kisumu to join his family members. Unfortunately, yesterday morning, as he attempted to ride on a motorbike, he forgot to replace the motorbike stand which tapped the ground while on motion and lost balance,’’ said the CEO.

Last Sunday’s goal was his fourth in the campaign for the club and Dave says he is saddened to have lost a player of Juma’s calibre.

‘’We got the accident report and we were told he was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital but succumbed to his injuries before he was attended to.”

Dave said the club officials will visit the family in Kisumu today to condole with them and plan funeral arrangements. The team has in the meantime cancelled their training programme for today.

His death is another blow to the football fraternity after a grisly road accident claimed the life of former Thika United Captain Dennis Lewa last year at Fort Tenan in Muhoroni Sub-County.

Lewa was among the 56 passengers who died in the Kakamega bound bus christened ‘Home-Boys’ that veered off the road, rolled and plunged into a deep pit.
