AFC Leopards head coach Zodolfo Zapata has revealed he would not be at the den by now had the club chairman Dan Mule not intervened at the height of his woes.

Zapata was set to resign last month over what Citizen Digital understood to be frustration from a section of the Leopards executive, before Mule intervened in the eleventh hour.

The former Gaborone United FC (Botswana) coach had decided to move from the club he joined in April this year, but Mule’s assurance of independence in his decision changed his mind.

“I have a hundred percent of support from the chairman and that is the reason I have decided to look forward to the future of this club both the long term and the short term. Leopards is a big family and in a family everybody has different ideas but the chairman’s job is to try and keep the family united. On this matter, he has succeeded in doing that,” told Zapata.

The Argentine has already won six matches, drew three and lost twice in his last 11 league matches he has been on the touchline.

With eternal rivals and Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia far from reach in the league title race, Zapata is keen to finish at least second and defend the FKF Shield successively.

Gor are 14 points ahead of Leopards, the former boasting of three matches in hand.

Zapata has meanwhile revealed his plan to involve some of the Under-23 players in his long term plan to add depth in the squad.
