Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee has taken over the mantle as the new Harambee Stars coach more 10 years since he left the role, replacing Francis Kimanzi who was sacked yesterday alongside entire backroom staff.

Mulee has signed a three-year deal. Former international Musa Otieno who has previously served the national team in various capacities, is expected to be named as his  assistant.

Mulee was officially unveiled to the media Wednesday afternoon at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

Speaking during his unveiling, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chief Nick Mwendwa said that Mulee’s brief is to take Kenya to the next African Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, set for Cameroon in 2022 and Qatar World Cup in 2022.

Mwendwa however vehemently stopped all questions touching on the dismissal of Kimanzi.

He said: “It is like going to a wedding and the first question you ask is about the ex-girlfriend. That, we won’t answer today. Today we are talking about the new coach.”

Mulee, on his part said: “It is a difficult task for me especially the forthcoming Comoros matches, but with what I saw in our friendly against Zambia (when Kimanzi was in charge) we can do it,” said the ever smiling Mulee.

He added that he will name his assistant in a day or two.

Being a breakfast radio show host in a national radio station, Mulee was coy to reveal how he will juggle between coaching and his initial job.

“I’m in discussions with my employer to plan how it will be done. You can however be sure I can’t be on radio when Harambee Stars is playing,” he said.
