Mulisya at the double as Chemelil storm into quarters

Chemelil Sugar stormed into the quarter finals of the ongoing Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Under-20 championship with a match to spare after stunning defending champions Mathare United 2-0 at Nairobi’s Camp Toyoyo Grounds on Monday.

Mohammed Mulisya’s brace made the difference for Chemelil as he struck once in each half to seal an early last eight berth for the Sugar Millers.

The two goals took Mulisya’s total tally to three goals with the ace having also netted in their 2-1 victory over Sony Sugar on Saturday.

The match was evenly balanced but poor finishing from Mathare came back to haunt them as they squandered several chances to take the lead before they finally fell back courtesy of Mulisya.

The sending off of Mathare’s goalkeeper, Job Ochieng, compounded their woes as they ended the match ten-man and will now have to do without their first choice custodian in their last group match.

Chemelil sit on top with six points, three above Mathare while Muhoroni Youth and Sony Sugar have zero points following losses in their opening fixtures.

In an earlier fixture at the same venue, Ulinzi Worriers bounced back to winning ways with a 4-1 victory over Posta Rangers. Alex Masinde, Edward Shida, Moses Mwangi and Francis Martin scored a goal each with the last three coming in a remarkable ten minute spell.

Ulinzi had lost their opener 1-0 to Western Stima, while Gor Mahia, another team in the group lost by the same margin to Posta.

The result leaves Ulinzi, Stima and Posta Rangers joint top of group B with three points each, the former enjoying a superior goal difference. However, the standings could change after Gor versus Posta later in the day.
