Mumbo ready to work with Otula after loss in KBF poll

Cynthia Mumbo has said she feels proud despite her failed quest to become the new Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) chairperson following Saturday’s National Elections held in Nairobi where she lost out 45-57 to the incumbent Paul Otula.

As she conceded defeat Mumbo, said she will support and work with the elected office.

“As a first timer, without a team to run with and having made my decision to run only seven days before election day, I am very proud of the results,” she said.

Mumbo thanked those who voted and backed her candidacy, giving youth and girls a word of encouragement.

“To ladies and youth, do not be afraid to run for office. Do not be afraid to stand and be counted.”

Mumbo, a marketer and a former basketball player, was Otula’s sole challenger in an election that was initially set for April last year but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Louise Araka was voted assistant treasurer after defeating Nelly Odera 49-47 while former holder Luke Ogolla garnered only seven votes.

Joseph Amoko and Steve Nyakina will continue serving as the match and fixture secretary and assistant match and fixture secretary respectively.
