Mururi ditches Homeboyz for KPL newbies Vihiga

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Mike Mururi is set to join newly promoted Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Vihiga United, Citizen Digital has learnt.

However, Vihiga have confirmed current coach Edward Manoah who led them to National Super League (NSL) title in 2017, will continue to lead the technical bench meaning Mururi will take a deputising role.

Vihiga’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Peter Atsiaya revealed the development, adding the coach will be officially unveiled to the public on Friday.

“Today (Tuesday) Mururi was unveiled to players as a new member of the technical bench. He starts work immediately, awaiting the Friday official presentation to our fans. We strongly believe his recruitment will add value to the team as we rush towards rediscovering our winning ways,” Atsiaya added.

However, Mururi denied the move saying he has not trained the team. Efforts to probe him further hit a brick wall, insisting he has not agreed on anything with Vihiga.

His departure will be a big blow to Homeboyz, after assembling almost a new team for the current KPL campaign. He guided the team to a fifth place finish in 2017, and declared to fight for the title this season.

A former Kenyan international, Mururi takes vast experience of the local league to his new club, having won the KPL Coach of the Year Award in 2014.

Vihiga have registered three losses in KPL and a draw, leaving them at 17th on the 18-team log with a single point.
