Muyoti insists Homeboyz are in title race, slams Wazito tactics

Nicholas Muyoti has maintained Kakamega Homeboyz have proven they will ‘never give up’ as they battle to overhaul a four point deficit between them and Kenyan Premier League leaders Gor Mahia.

Homeboyz were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at Bukhungu Stadium by Wazito, thanks to Derrick Otanga’s stoppage time penalty which dented Muyoti’s title quest.

However the youthful tactician is adamant his squad won’t lose faith and believes his charges have what it takes to challenge Gor for the title.

“It’s not over until it is over. I said it before that this is a marathon and without fear, we are still in the title race. The draw doesn’t mean we have fallen; we are going to work on our weaknesses in the shortest time possible as we switch out gears to Mombasa where we are going to look for the maximum points, ”he said in reference to their  looming weekend assignment against Bandari set for the Mombasa Sports Club.

Muyoti was at the same time not pleased by Wazito’s tactics.

Wazito took a somewhat pessimistic approach into the game opting to sit back and catch the hosts on the break, a technique that paid dividends as Stewart Hall’s charges earned a late, late penalty which they converted to hand them a point.

“They came here to park the bus. We knew it before but unfortunately my boys’ were not brave enough to break their resilience. Despite conceding the penalty which I feel should not have been awarded, I urge my players to put their heads held as we fight for the top spot,”added Muyoti.

The draw means Homeboyz failed to win only for the second time in their last nine league assignments. In fact the last time they lost a league match was in early November when Gor Mahia handed them a 3-0 defeat; their heaviest loss of the season. Since then they have gone on to win seven in their past nine, drawing the other two.

On their part, Wazito are only four points above the relegation zone and host Western Stima on Saturday before visiting Tusker at Ruaraka grounds.
