Mwachiro: My leadership will reclaim football for all

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential hopeful Herbert Mwachiro says his target is to ‘reclaim football for all’ if elected as the country’s football boss on October 17.

The former FKF deputy CEO says his manifesto is built around growing the game from the grassroots where he believes there is a massive potent talent which remains untapped.

By focusing with grassroots football, the renowned football commentator who announced his candidature in May believes he will transform the football industry by laying down a formidable foundation.

“My target is Mashinani where football is and I will make sure we will have a strong foundation which will help spur the development of the game in Kenya. I want to give all Kenyans the chance to showcase their talents by ensuring we have good structures everywhere in the country.

“Every part of this country has would-be great footballers but the talents always go to waste owing to lack of proper governance. My leadership will correct that by incorporating all the grassroots stakeholders,” he told Citizen Digital.

Mwachiro, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (Kepsa) Sports, Arts and Culture Board chairman, expressed his confidence of unseating incumbent Nick Mwendwa if the elections are held in a free and fair manner.

“I want to urge the delegates to elect someone who is football development oriented because some of my colleagues don’t have the will to transform our game. Mwendwa has done a good job but I’m fit to take Kenya to the next level, I will put Kenya where it deserves to be on the continental and global football map,” he added.

Current FKF boss Mwendwa, former president Sam Nyamweya, Nicholas Musonye, Omondi Aduda, Twaha Mbarak and Sammy Sholei are other individuals in the race.

On Tuesday, the FKF Electoral Board announced October 17 as the new dates for the twice-cancelled elections.

The Board chairperson Kentice Tikolo said the grassroots polls across the 47-counties which will be held on September 19 will precede the national elections.

The previous two exercises were nullified by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) last December and in March this year, with SDT chairman John Ohaga ruling that the rules of engagement were.
