Mwalala: FKF Shield a top priority for Bandari

Bandari head coach Bernard Mwalala has said his team will channel their energies in claiming the Shield rather than the Kenya Premier League.

Speaking after they bundled out Western Stima 4-1 to storm to the semi finals of the Cup competition, Mwalala said winning the Shield is the “short cut” in representing Kenya in the continental tournament as the league looks more competitive.

“We will put all our energy in this cup as we look to represent Kenya in the Confederation Cup as it looks more viable compared to the league,” said Mwalala.

Bandari are drawn against against Coastal division side SS Assad in the first semi final and Mwalala assured that they will face them with full force so as to avoid an upset as it has been witnessed in the early stages.

“We will face them with full force, just like with other team and finish the game early,”he reckoned.

The Shield semis are scheduled for May 12 as defending champions Kariobangi Sharks aim their attack on KCB in another semis tie.

Bandari are in Kisumu to face defending champions Gor Mahia in tomorrow’s league match at the Moi Stadium.

At the same time, Mwalala has hailed his side’s emphatic 4-1 win over Stima terming the win a ‘motivator’ in their remote quest for the elusive league title.

Mwalala also calmed nerves that reliable attacker  Yema Mwana who hobbled off in the Stima win  could be out for long.

“Ochomo is back and I’m trying to get him fit as Yema and Abdallah may miss tomorrows game but we are still monitoring them,”he explained.
