Mwalala keen to break Gor KPL unbeaten record

Bandari FC head coach Bernard Mwalala has told his charges to go beyond the obvious and beat Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia when the two sides clash on Tuesday at the Mbaraki Sports Club.

Gor, has not tasted defeat in the current KPL campaign in the 22 matches played so far, but Mwalala believes his charges have the muscle to sink the 16-time champions.

Bandari, though at 42 points, 14 behind the runaway leaders, have been impressive since the arrival of Mwalala last month avoiding defeat in all matches.

“We know what Gor are capable of doing, but we have a very good squad that can beat them. They are tired out of the tight schedule and that’s a point we can capitalise on. I challenge my players to go for maximum points,” told the former Kenyan international.

Earlier on Monday, Gor CEO Ludovick Aduda told Citizen Digital an unbeaten record would be good but not as important as defending their title successfully.

“I think to the players it is important because they would like that special touch besides retaining the trophy. For me winning the league comes first, then how we win it second. With all other competitions still in mind (CAF Cup, FKF Shield and Everton journey), it is prudent to get priorities right.”

Dylan Kerr has been routinely rotating his squad in the KPL matches, recently resting seven of his first team regulars in the Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Nakumatt FC.

Bandari has lost nine matches, drawing four in previous 17 meetings against Gor. A win in the Tuesday’s match will take the dockers to 45 points, and to the second spot on the log above Sofapaka.
