Mwalala says still a Bandari employee

Bernard Mwalala says he is still an employee of Bandari FC despite being asked to step aside from his role as the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) club’s head coach.

Bandari left the club after a series of poor performance with the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Tusker FC in Mombasa marking his final match in charge.

The Dockers are closer to relegation than to the top two places where they have finished in each of the last two seasons after making a poor start that leaves them sitting 11th on the KPL standings.

“I was only told to step aside so I still have a contract with them until July 2021. We will be holding talks with the club’s officials in the next few weeks and see what happens,” Mwalala said.

Mwalala joined Bandari mid during the 2018 season from Nzoia Sugar and guided the club into finsihing second behind eventual champions Gor Mahia FC.

He achieved a similar feat the season that followed and topped it off by leading them back to continental football after winning the FKF Cup last season.

But the club has performed dismally this season, showing no glimpse of the formidable side they had become and have accumulated only 18 points after 16 matches.

Asked if he has received offers for any club Mwalala said: “I cannot comment on anything at the moment because that will be against my contract with Bandari so I can’t say anything until they come up with the final decision on my future with them.”

Veteran tactician Twahir Muhiddin, who was appointed to take over on a caretaker capacity until the end of the season, will be in charge of the team for the first time on Saturday when they play Gor at Afraha stadium.
