Mwalala upbeat as Bandari go point hunting at Homeboyz

Bandari head coach Bernard Mwalala is upbeat ahead of a midweek Kenyan Premier League clash against Kakamega Homeboyz set for the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

The two sides clock horns on Wednesday in what could be a mouth-watering clash, with both sides coming into the match on the back of impressive wins.

Bukhungu Stadium has not been friendly to the Mwalala coached side recently, but the gaffter believes their emphatic 4-1 win over Wazito FC on Friday will hand a morale-boost to his side who have had a difficult run.

“We needed that win. We believe we can be among the top five teams before we take a break but that depends on how we are going to perform away to Kakamega and Kisumu. We have the belief to get positive results against these two sides,” said Mwalala.

Bandari will be without winger Abdallah Hassan who is out on national duty with Harambee Stars in Uganda and Mwalala is also set to miss the services of Fredb Nkata who is still nursing an injury and captain Felly Mulumba through illness.

Winger Shaban Kenga who captained the side in their 4-1 demolition over Wazito has urged his teammates to show more maturity when they face Homeboyz who have been putting some stellar performances under Nicolas Muyoti’s guidance.

Kenga, 36, believes they still have a long way to go and insists it is not over until it’s over.

“This (league race) is a marathon; lots of matches to play but we need to work hard to achieve our goals. There was some fatigue amongst us but we now feel fresh and ready.”

“Against Wazito we showed more character and hunger but we need to be more mature against them [Homeboyz],” he told Citizen Digital.

On 23 points, Homeboyz are yet to lose a match at their own turf and a win will see them leapfrog league leaders Gor Mahia at the summit of the log. K’Ogalo currently top the standings on 25.
