Mwalala urges troops to clear the cobwebs ahead of US Ben clash

Bandari head coach Bernard Mwalala has cautioned his charges to clear the cobwebs from their ward robes ahead of a tricky CAF Confederations Cup first round clash with US Ben Guerdane of Tunisia.

The Dockers sailed to the first round of the tourney for the very first time in their history with an away goal in a battling 1-1 draw against Sudanese side Al Shandy last Friday in Sudan and Mwalala believes time is ripe for his charges to show their mettle.

According to Mwalala, scoring goals at home should be prioritized.

“If we are to qualify for the playoffs then we must not repeat the same mistake of drawing at home but winning with a big margin,” said Mwalala.

He added: “North Africans have players like ours so the game is a 50-50 chance and we believe we can proceed.”

The Kenyan representatives will play the first leg at home at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on September 14 before an away fixture two weeks later in Tunisia.

Bandari will also start their Kenyan Premier League campaign against Mathare away this weekend, before shifting focus to the Confederation Cup.

At the same time, the Kenya representative in the CAF Champions League Gor mahia have been drawn against USM Algier of Algeria in their first round after eliminating Burundi’s Aigle Noir 5-1 on aggregate.
