Mwamba eye Nakuru RFC scalp in playoffs

Mwamba RFC have shifted focus on their upcoming Kenya Cup Top Six Playoffs showdown with Top Fry Nakuru RFC after they secured qualification over the weekend.

The Kulabu went down 32-22 to Menengai Oilers at the Nakuru ASK Showground in the final round of the Kenya Cup league phase but still manage to squeeze to the playoffs and Coach Tito Oduk hopes they can get it right against Nakuru.

“It is disappointing to lose against Oilers having worked well with our set piece and our defense, our line out did well but our defense let us down so credit to Oilers who brought the game to us.”

With three weeks to prepare for the Nakuru’s match, the former national 15s assistant coach believes it’s enough time to prepare against his opponents aiming the title.

“The first thing we are going to sort out is our defense line which has really being letting us down, fielding of the high balls which is also part of the defense and we will also keep working on our set pieces which has being improving alongside our scrums.”

“Earlier this season we drove Nondies back plus matched on against Kabras which shows there are good areas we have improved in the course of the season but we really need to step up our attitude when we play Nakuru because it’s a knock out.”

The winner will play against Champions Kabras Sugar away in Kakamega in the semi finals after they sealed the top spot in the standings.

The other play offs clash will be between Ngong Road sides Kenya Harlequins and Impala Saracens with the winner playing away against KCB who finished second.

And by the virtue of topping the standings, Kabras Sugar will have the privilege of hosting the final on May 11 should they qualify for the decider.
