Mwamba send KCB tumbling out of Prinsloo Sevens

Champions KCB were on Sunday bundled out of the Prinsloo Sevens tournament at the semis after a 10-5 loss to in- form Mwamba RFC in Nakuru.

Ken Asati scored the first try through Ken Asati, pitting KCB ahead which was unconverted, but Elkeans Musonye hauled Mwamba level before Daniel Taabu scored the winning try, converted by Musonye.

KCB, on their way to the Cup semis, needed a 12-10 win over homeside Menengai Oilers in the Cup quarterfinal match.

Shaban Ahmed made a quick note of the gap at the try box and scored the opening try between the posts. However, the super Shaban was not done yet after an impressive run saw him add the second for a 12-0 lead.

Oilers skipper Harold Anduvate also got a brace, and the newly promoted Kenya Cup side were just a point away.

The bankers went on to hold on to reach the semis.

At the same time, title contenders Kabras Sugar were knocked out of the tournament by an organised Homeboyz side. In a closely contested clash, Kenya international Bush Mwale went over the whitewash, breaking the deadlock in the final minute of the first half,  touching down at the far corner for a 5-0 lead.

In the final half, Fabian Olando’s fended off  a few Homeboyz defenders before offloading to teammate Nick Baraza  to level the scores.

Homeboyz RFC utility Mark Wandeto then restored Homeboyz lead, and the Deejays try proved to be crucial as it knocked out the 2017 winners after 10-5 win.
