Mwangu floors Savulane to take FKF Vihiga County chairmanship

Former Football Kenya (FKF) Western Branch Secretary General Kelvin Mwangu, allied to Team Blue, was on Saturday elected the new Vihiga County chairman, in the elections held at the Emuhaya CDF Hall.

A total of 18 delegates eligible to vote successfully participated in the process, as 17 voted in favour of Mwangu while one vote was spoilt.

Charles Alulu who presided over the elections declared Mwangu as the duly elected chairman, despite Anamange Savulane who was eyeing the seat failing to show up at the voting centre.

His absence delayed the process for several hours before Alulu allowed the available delegates to vote.

In an exclusive interview at the polling centre, Mwangu said his agenda will be to partner with County Government to ensure grounds are in a good state for football, and introduce under 13 and 17 leagues beside looking for sponsors to partner with teams in the county.

On her part, Sharon Vulimu, Women Representative who was unopposed said her key agenda will be reviving the women league, citing early marriages and pregnancies as some of the factors crippling women football growth.

Savulane has meanwhile rubbished the FKF electoral process at Emuhaya CDF hall, citing anomalies in the delegates register.

“We are waiting for the resolution in the case against FKF conducting  the elections on December 3rd this year. If the outcome will be against ‘our’ wish then let FKF be ready to meet reborn Kenya Football Federation( KFF),” noted Savulane.

He claimed FKF disobeyed the Registrar of Sports advice to halt elections until the election disputes are determined, observing that will be the leeway for the KFF members to regroup and run a parallel league.

Already, former KFF chairman Sam Nyamweya has declared this will be their path, having failed to stop the county elections through the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT).

However, Some of the delegates who participated in this Saturday’s election lauded the process terming it as free and fair calling on the new office to ensure money allocated for sports in the county benefit teams.

“The new office should ensure more teams are enrolled in the branch league unlike now where there are only eight teams participating,” Lawrence Chunguli, Secretary Vihiga Sportiff club told.

Western National Executive Committee (NEC) member Tony Kweya observed the election was free and fair, calling on the new office to begin working on meeting promises made to teams during the campaigns. Only the chairman’s position was contested while the rest of positions were occupied unopposed.
