Mwanja wants KCB to use Kenya Cup pain to fuel Enterprise title bid
Five-time Enterprise Cup Champions
KCB RFC will be back in action this Saturday afternoon as they host varsity
lads Catholic Monks in the round of 16 of the 2024 Enterprise Cup tournament at
the KCB Sports Club, Ruaraka.
The Bankers first won the tournament
in 2004 and then clinched the title again in 2007 before a three-peat in 2015,
2016, and 2017, when they last won the trophy.
As they kick off the campaign, the
2023 finalists have fixed their sights on a sixth title, seeking redemption
after the Kenya Cup upset a fortnight ago.
Speaking during their training
session at the KCB Sports Club, KCB assistant coach Dennis Mwanja expressed
confidence in the squad, saying that the team continues with the hard work,
highlighting the need for teamwork and solidarity among the players for
collective success.
“We are just going to take one game
at a time. We have been training hard, fixing the loopholes from our last game,
working on the tactical side, and building our mental strength for this clash.
We have to remain focused and disciplined both on and off the field, as I
believe that consistency is key to achieving our goals in this tournament.”
The Bankers squad will be without
youngster Andy Cole Omollo, who made several appearances for the KCB in the
Kenya Cup, and the Chipu Captain Michael Wanjala, who had his first Kenya Cup
final start two weeks ago against Kabras. The two have joined the Chipu Squad
and will be taking part in the Rugby Africa U20 Barthes Trophy 2024 in Harare,
Zimbabwe.
“We still have a squad depth, though
we will be playing without Samuel Asati, Vincent Onyalla and Elvis Olukusi, who
are currently training with the national sevens team. Our prop Wilhite Mususi
also remains unavailable after picking up an injury during our last match in
Kakamega," Mwanja added.
